Costco Online vs. Warehouse Prices in Canada: When Paying for “Delivered” Is Worth It
Costco.ca charges more than the warehouse for the same item, and Costco says so in its own fine print. We compared both prices for items in this month’s Costco Canada savings, read what Costco says about the gap, and worked out when paying the online price is the smart move.

If you have ever added something to a Costco.ca cart and thought the price looked higher than the shelf tag you remembered, you were right. Costco prices its website as a separate channel. Shipping is folded into the price and there is no delivery line at checkout. That makes the online price easy to read two ways: as a markup, or as free delivery. It is a delivery charge built into the price, and whether it is worth paying depends on what you are buying.
The short answer
Expect to pay $3 to $5 more on Costco.ca for small grocery and gift items, about $10 more on a $140 appliance, and nothing extra at checkout. The premium is a flat few dollars rather than a percentage, so it hurts most on cheap items and barely registers on expensive ones.
If you are going to the warehouse anyway, buy anything under about $50 there. Pay the online price for bulky items you do not want to carry, for the many deals that only exist online, and when the drive would cost you more than the gap.
What Costco says about its own prices
You do not have to take our word for it. Costco describes it in several places, in its own words.

Five items, two prices
These are items from Costco Canada’s October 2026 warehouse savings that are also sold on Costco.ca with a visible price. The warehouse price is the one in Costco’s own email; the online price is what Costco.ca showed on October 7.
The premium is a flat amount, not a percentage. That is why it reads as 85% on a $13 pair of lounge pants and 7% on a $43 box of coffee pods. On a $1,000 item the same few dollars would not be visible at all, which is also why big-ticket online-only deals can still be good value.
Not everything crosses over
We looked up nine warehouse items from this month’s savings on Costco.ca. Only the five above showed a price we could compare.
- Two hid the price behind sign-in. The Ninja Crispi air fry system ($159.99 in warehouses after $40 off, to October 25) and the Shokz OpenRun SE headphones ($99.99 after $30 off, to October 8) both showed

online. Costco does this on some brand-name electronics, so you cannot compare without a membership login. - Two are warehouse only. The Kirkland Signature Men’s Pima polo ($14.99) and Kirkland Signature Nut & Seed Brittle ($8.99) had no Costco.ca listing at all.
- Many of the biggest cuts are online only. The Aiden & Ivy dining chair at $199.99 ($150 off), the Staub 6.7 L cocotte at $299.99 ($100 off), the Napoleon 42-inch electric fireplace at $219.99 ($140 off) and the KidKraft Summit Vista swing set at $999.99 ($800 off) are Costco.ca deals with no warehouse price to beat.
Three ways to get Costco delivered
available at a higher price, and delivery and service fees are added on top. Best when you need groceries today and the time matters more than the money.
When paying for delivered is worth it
A simple rule set based on what we found this month.
- Under $50 and you shop there anywayWarehouse. A $3 to $11 gap is 25% to 85% on these items.
- Bulky, heavy or awkwardOnline. Furniture, fireplaces, swing sets, mattresses. The few dollars inside the price are less than any other way of getting it home.
- The deal is online onlyOnline. There is no warehouse price to compare, and this is where Costco’s largest dollar cuts were in October.
- Sign In for PriceSign in before you decide. The visible price is not the member price.
- The drive costs more than the gapOnline. If the warehouse is a long round trip you would not otherwise make, a $5 premium is cheaper than the fuel.
The legal argument over the gap
In January 2025 a Quebec law firm filed a proposed class action against Costco Canada, alleging that charging more online than in the warehouse amounts to double ticketing, which Canada’s Competition Act describes as charging more than the lowest of two or more prices clearly shown for the same product. The examples in the filing were a flat iron at $59.99 online versus $49.99 in store and a blender at $84.99 versus $79.99. Costco’s position is that online and warehouse are different channels and that the online price includes shipping and handling. At the time of the January 2025 reporting the case was awaiting court authorization; we have not found a later ruling. A separate suit filed in the United States makes a similar argument about free shipping
, with a plaintiff saying she paid $250 more for a sectional on Costco.com than the in-store price.
For a shopper, the practical point is the same either way: the online price is a delivered price. Compare it with the warehouse price plus the cost of getting there, not with the warehouse price alone.
How we checked, and the limits
Warehouse prices come from Costco Canada’s own savings emails for the events running September 28 to October 25 and October 5 to 11, 2026, which Gizly posts as individual deals. On October 7 we opened each item’s Costco.ca page or search result without signing in and recorded the price shown, including any instant saving the page displayed. Items marked Sign In for Price
and items with no online listing are reported as such rather than guessed.
- Five pairs is a small sample. It is enough to show the pattern Costco itself describes, not to put a precise average on it.
- One day. Instant savings start and end on different dates online and in warehouses, so a gap can open or close within a week.
- Regional prices. Warehouse prices can differ by province. The email prices we used are Costco Canada’s national savings, and your shelf tag may vary.
Frequently asked questions
Why is Costco more expensive online than in the warehouse?
Costco.ca prices include standard shipping, and Costco says the online price accounts for shipping and handling that warehouse purchases do not carry. On the five flyer items we compared in October 2026, Costco.ca was $3 to $11 higher than the warehouse price.
Does Costco.ca charge for shipping?
Not as a separate line. Costco.ca states that standard shipping via UPS is included in the quoted price. An additional shipping and handling fee applies to Yukon, Nunavut and the Northwest Territories and is quoted at checkout.
Can I return a Costco.ca order to a warehouse?
Yes. Costco.ca says its products can be returned to any Costco warehouse, and Costco’s standard satisfaction guarantee applies with the usual exceptions, such as electronics return windows.
Is Costco Same-Day Delivery the same price as the warehouse?
No. Costco’s own promotional emails describe items as available for Same-Day Delivery at a higher price
, and the service, which runs through Instacart, adds delivery and service fees.
Can I order Costco through DoorDash in Canada?
Yes, since October 6, 2026. You link your Costco membership inside the DoorDash app. DashPass members get $0 delivery fees and reduced service fees on orders of $85 or more, and DoorDash is offering 20% off Costco orders from October 8 to 12, 2026.
