TFSA Contribution Room Calculator

Estimate your TFSA room from CRA’s annual limits. Room starts accumulating the year you turned 18 (2009 at the earliest), and withdrawals come back as room on January 1 of the following year.

An estimate only. CRA’s My Account shows your official room, though it is only updated to the start of the current year. Withdrawals made this year come back as room next January 1.

How this is calculated

Room = the sum of CRA’s annual TFSA dollar limits from the later of 2009 or the year you turned 18 while resident in Canada, minus everything you have contributed, plus withdrawals from earlier years (they return as room the following January 1). The annual limits are $5,000 (2009 to 2012), $5,500 (2013 to 2014), $10,000 (2015), $5,500 (2016 to 2018), $6,000 (2019 to 2022), $6,500 (2023) and $7,000 (2024 to 2026).

Worked examples: eligible since 2009 with nothing contributed, total room is $109,000. Turned 18 in 2015, the total is $78,000. Verified with an independent calculation. Limits last checked October 21, 2026.
